Why SEO is Important for Your Business

Search Engine Optimization…a.k.a. SEO. Maybe you’ve heard of it, maybe you haven’t. It’s the practice of optimizing your site content to make it as discoverable as possible to search engines, allowing your website to show up at the top of search results. Obviously, showing up at the top of search results makes your business top of mind to consumers when they are searching for something. But, what are you doing to ensure that happens? If SEO isn’t part of your marketing strategy, it needs to be. Here’s a few reasons why SEO should be part of your 2023 marketing strategy to catapult your business.

Why Your Business Needs SEO

  • Establish Authority

When your site is optimized with strategic external linking (a pillar of any strong SEO strategy), search engines like Google and Bing view your site as authoritative because you are proving your knowledge of your business’ subject matter. A backlinking strategy - where a link to your website lives on other websites - helps create a stronger roadmap for the search engine to evaluate and rank your site. Backlinking tells Google that other people are relying on your website as a source when they link to it, boosting your site’s ability to rank higher in search results, increasing the likelihood a consumer will find your business and click into your website when they’re searching for something.

  • Drive Traffic through Organic Search

SEO efforts give you the opportunity to customize the text shown in search results by implementing title tags and meta descriptions. Title tags show as the blue links in search results. They can be written with strong CTAs and motivating terms to encourage users to click through to your site over other search results. Meta descriptions, while not as impactful as title tags, act as supporting content. Google often curates its own meta description based on your site content and the search query entered, but creating your own meta descriptions that support the strong CTAs in your title tags help search engines show relevant content more efficiently, boosting your opportunity to rank higher.  These customizations often include keywords based on the page’s intent, helping users land on the right page based on their query. The better your optimizations, the better your click-through-rates from Organic Traffic, increasing your lead generation and sales potential.

  • Improve User Experience Through Relevant Content

Understanding SEO reporting like what keywords yield the most traffic to your website or which landing page gets the most traffic can help you improve your user experience. This data gives you the information needed to update the page content to better serve users landing on that page. Strong page content is highly regarded by Google, especially after the Helpful Content Update launched in August 2022. This algorithm update favors sites with content written by people for the target audience of the site. Basically, if your content is relevant to your business and helps users answer the questions they’re searching for, the more likely your site is going to be favored by Google. And by people, for that matter. Nobody wants to spend time on a site that isn’t answering their questions or providing what they need.

  • Improve Results of Digital Marketing Efforts

If you advertise on other digital platforms, your SEO strategy can be a supportive arm of your advertising strategy. For example, say you're a pizza company wanting to rank for “pizza near me” in all your local markets. This term has a high keyword difficulty, meaning it is hard to rank for because there is a lot of competition. It also has 6.8 million searches per MONTH. Talk about traffic potential, am I right? You can leverage Google Ads to bid on the “pizza near me” keyword while simultaneously optimizing your local landing pages with the term. By driving paid traffic to the landing pages targeting the keyword, you’re showing Google how your pages can be trusted when users search for pizza near them. Over time, you will start to rank better for that term organically because of the additional paid traffic helping build your site’s authority.

  • ADA Compliance

SEO strategies cover all of the little details, like alt tags on your images and overall page design. While we often utilize these behind-the-scenes optimization points for keyword placement and to drive conversions, we always keep ADA compliance in mind to ensure your site is compliant.

Alt tags describe the image. This makes your site more ADA compliant as it allows screen readers to describe your site accurately to a user with vision impairment.

In addition to alt tag optimization, we often study user experience and recommend design updates to your site to improve conversions. Oftentimes, these recommendations are updating page colors, text placement and button size. All items that are required to be ADA compliant.

SEO is a super impactful long term marketing strategy that is becoming even more powerful as Google continues to update the platform to better serve consumers. Face it, everyone searches for everything. Why not work towards making your business show up as #1?
